Imelda Martinez - March 20, 1956 - April 14, 2022

Departed: 04/14/2022 (Deming)

Obituary Preview: Music, laughter and love are guaranteed. Food is delicious and you never gain an ounce. She left detailed instructions for her husband Gabe and children to celebrate her mission here, which has now been completed. Low adherence to this instruction will not be tolerated. Also to all people she has met, she hoped she made you laugh and smile.

From the orchards of Morgan Hill and Gilroy, California to the San Joaquin Valley, then Monterey, California to Diamond Head and Waikiki, Hawaii. An accomplished instructor of cosmetology, entrepreneur, everywhere she lived with her husband, thus his military career, she had business and left her legacy with these she met and helped her artistic talents in painting, was honored after her retirement.

Imelda S. Martinez, 66, lived at 1225 Martios St. and 10895 Columbus Rd SE, (The latter was her place of peace and Reflection) passed away on April 14, 2022. Battled cancer, Imelda was born on March 20, 1956 to Emelda and Ventura Sanchez, in Blythe, California.

Melda would like to know that her work here is done. She received a call a sort of an offer you can’t refuse, for an appointment with a huge sign-on bonus, a reunion with family and friends she has not seen in a long time. Job security is exactly 110% just like her effort with you friends here. Her new mission takes her to a wonderful place where she will be socializing, dancing, gardening and reading to her hearts content.

We want her to know that she did a great job and wish her a safe journey. Remember her smile, her warmth, her energy, her love of life, family and her dear friends but also students, colleagues and clients, many who over time also became friends. She worked very hard all her life, up to the very end. She made a difference in the lives of many, setting her bar higher for her accomplishments just to be a good example.

Imelda is survived by her husband Gabriel Martinez; a son, Ventura Martinez; a daughter, Christina Martinez; siblings, Benny (Josie) Sanchez and Johnny (Pat) Sanchez, Lupe De Jesus, Terry (Rudy) Chavez, Marcela Sanchez, Isabel Sanchez and Josie Lozano.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ventura and Emelda Sanchez; siblings, Rosie Chairez, Helen Sanchez and Frances Corona.

Memorial service will take place Monday, April 25, 2022 at 11 o’clock in the morning at Baca’s Funeral Chapel with Father Prakasham Babu officiating.

Departed: 04/12/2022 (Deming)

Obituary Preview: It is with great sadness we announce the passing of a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend and neighbor. Nellie Castillo Pantoja earned many titles in her 86 years of life, each role as important to her as the next.

Born June 17,1935 in Rodey, NM. Nellie was an enduringly warm and positive force for her family and friends, perhaps the result of finding her true love so early in life at age 12, when she met Ruben G. Pantoja, who would later become her husband of 59 years.

Nellie’s sweet and pleasant demeanor could also perhaps be credited partly to her pure delight for desserts of any kind. If she could have eaten dessert for every meal, she would have.

Nellie entered eternal rest on April 12, 2022 in Lordsburg, NM at home surrounded by her loving and loud family, a testament to her lifelong dedication to their love and care.

A prolific conversationalist, Nellie always welcomed a long phone call. It was a known fact that calling her home between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. would result in a busy signal. Her home was always filled with family, friends and laughter. She always knew how to manage and gracefully give everyone her time and attention.

A homemaker caring for her 10 children and grandchildren, Nellie worked incredibly hard throughout her life to open up new possibilities and opportunities for her children and grandchildren. Her legacy lives on in their success and prosperity.

Nellie is survived by her sister, Juanita Martinez of Hatch, NM, children Ruben Pantoja (Mary), Frances Rosales(Marty), Gloria Mata (Monchie), Cathy Parker (Jimmy), Andy Pantoja (Renee), Rosie Pantoja (Chad), Chris Pantoja (Mary), Christina Pantoja (Joe), Olivia Pantoja and her very special friend, Dora Placencia. She was a grandmother to her beloved 25 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Mom will be sorely missed but live on in our hearts forever. Her life, love and faith was a blessing to everyone that knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents Domingo and Antonia Castillo, her loving husband, Ruben, daughter, Sandra Pantoja and 5 brothers and 5 sisters.

Services will be held Tuesday, April 19 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, with a visitation at 9 a.m., followed by a rosary and funeral mass, followed by interment at Shakespeare Cemetery in Lordsburg, NM where her final resting place will be next to her loving husband and daughter.

Who writes an obituary?

Obituaries can be written by family members of the deceased, funeral home professionals, or journalists. Sometimes the individual who passed away writes their own obituary ahead of time.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

An obituary is a detailed account of a person's life and legacy often including biographical details and anecdotes. A death notice, on the other hand, is a short notification of death that might not include more personal details and is often used to inform people of the service times and location.

What should be included in an obituary?

An obituary generally includes the full name of the deceased, their age, the place and date of death, a brief recap of their personal life and career, significant contributions, a list of surviving family members, and details about the funeral or memorial services. Sometimes it can also include a special message or a brief mention of cause of death.

Is it necessary to include the cause of death in an obituary?

Including the cause of death is a personal choice and not necessary unless the family wishes to share that information. Sometimes families include it for closure or to raise awareness for specific health issues or charitable causes.

How do you start writing an obituary?

When writing an obituary, start by collecting as much information as you can about the deceased, like their full name, age, and important life events. Begin with announcing the death respectfully, then outline their life story, noting significant accomplishments and the people and activities they loved. Conclude with service details and any preferred charitable donations.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary. It might be a short paragraph for a modest notice or a lengthy, detailed article for a well-known person. It typically depends on the allotted space in the publication and the amount of information the family wishes to share.

Can obituaries be published online?

Yes, many obituaries are now published online through various platforms, including funeral homes' websites, dedicated memorial sites, and social media. Online obituaries allow for wider dissemination and often enable visitors to leave condolences.

What is the cost to publish an obituary?

The cost to publish an obituary varies depending on the publication or website. Newspapers often charge by line, word, or column inch, while many online sites offer free or flat-rate pricing. It's important to check with the specific publication for their rates and guidelines.

Photos are commonly included in obituaries and can help readers connect with the announcement. Publications usually offer options for different sizes and colored or black and white photos.

How soon after death should an obituary be published?

Obituaries are typically published as soon as the funeral arrangements are confirmed so that people have time to plan to attend services. A timeframe of a few days after the death is common.

How to submit an obituary to a newspaper or website?

To submit an obituary, contact the newspaper or website to learn about their submission processes, deadlines, and pricing. They will usually request the obituary text and any accompanying photos, which might need to adhere to specific format requirements.

Can you include a quote or poem in an obituary?

Absolutely. Quotes or poems that were meaningful to the deceased or ones that express family sentiments can be included in an obituary to add a personal and touching element.

What if there is a mistake in the obituary?

If there's a mistake in an obituary, you should contact the publication as soon as possible to correct the information. Corrections are typically published in the next available edition.

Is an obituary necessary?

An obituary is not legally required but it is considered a customary way to inform the community of the death, to celebrate the life of the deceased, and to communicate funeral or memorial service details.

Should children or family pets be mentioned in an obituary?

Children, grandchildren, close relatives, and even family pets can all be mentioned in an obituary if it reflects the wishes of the family or honors the memory of the deceased.

How can people find an old obituary?

Old obituaries can be found in newspaper archives, online databases, library resources, or genealogy websites. Sometimes funeral homes keep records of the obituaries they have published as well.

Is it acceptable to solicit donations in an obituary?

It is common to request donations to a charitable cause in lieu of flowers or gifts. This can be done in memory of the deceased, especially if they were passionate about the cause or it relates to the circ*mstances of their death.

Are there legal requirements to fulfill when writing an obituary?

While there are no strict legal requirements for the content of an obituary, you should make sure to have permission from the next of kin if you are not a direct family member. Furthermore, it is important to be truthful and respectful in the information presented.
