Super Inspiring and Creative Character Design Projects
Character design is a field packed full of some of the most creative designers in the industry. Creating a great character goes far beyond drawing skills, as the designer must imbue a character, personality and persona upon their character. Beyond the amazing talent required to construct each character then, these designers show a hugely impressive ability to give their characters life, often through some of the simplest design flourishes.
This awesome project captures the figures of the popular TV show Lost. Notice how the personalities of the characters are depicted, be it through props (the guitar, fish head and dog lead), stance (is a characters stance passive, aggressive, defensive etc…), exaggerated proportions (notice how the more aggressive characters are given broader shoulders, and a more beast-like form).
Alice in Wonderland Character Designs
Michael Kutsche’s work was officially used for Tim Burton’s recent movie, and it’s easy to see why. This character design project makes each character drawing a work of art. The attention to detail is staggering, including the backdrops for each character, indicative of their setting/mood. Pay particular attention to the textures going on in this project, ranging from fur to scales, it’s awe-inspiring stuff!
I love the dark, monotone feel of this project. The characters feel almost gothic, or like something out of Sin City. The bold shadows and grungy outlines create a very impactful set of illustrations.
This project is simply pure crazy fun! The bright and colorful characters are really eye-catching, and are reminiscent of something out of a Pixar movie.
A project for The Art Directors Club Berlin, these characters of the art directors really show how varied illustration of humans can be. Each character seems to have a totally individual personality, each distinguished by their facial expression, clothes/accesories and general form.
It’s great to see how this project was first constructed through the sketch phase, and the careful planning certainly paid off, as these unique characters are super trendy. The unusual anatomies of the character give them a highly unique appearance, yet it fits perfectly with the theme of the project, as the alternative rockers comprise a motley crew of musicians.

Awesome illustrations, I love The Agency the characters look so damn real its crazy. The Alice images look great too, the feel of them is very close to the film you get a real sense of darkness and grunge attitude. I’d love to be so talented.
