Sausage Potato Hash

Whilst I adore my air fryer breakfast potatoes, I love having some sausage in my breakfast hash.

I will cook breakfast potatoes and be thinking that something is missing and how it needs some sausages.

Then I will use the other air fryer to cook some sausages and now I have two air fryers to clean.

Which if you have followed me for a while, you will know that I don’t like cleaning the one air fryer, let alone TWO!

I was in the process of experimenting with our new recipe for an air fryer harvest casserole, had some sausages leftover that needed using up (I always buy too many from the butchers because they are delish) and thought why not make a sausage potato hash instead.

The sausages could be chopped up in a similar way potatoes are for a hash and it could all be dumped in the air fryer basket together.

A win win that’s for sure.

And you know what….. they were absolutely delicious and I just had to share with you how to make a sausage potato hash using the air fryer.

Plus, as well as our free newsletter, we also have a free air fryer mini course. It is ideal for air fryer beginners or those that want to get more confident with their air fryer. The free course runs for 5 days with a new lesson delivered each day to your inbox.

What Is A Potato Hash?

A potato hash is simply a dish of fried onions and potatoes. It creates an amazing crisp on the potatoes from the onions and it is not unusual for meat to be added in.

You also often see a potato hash served with a fried egg on top too.

But the greatest thing about a potato hash is that you can make it your own. You can use up leftover ingredients, you can use up bits of meat, you can add colour to it with peppers, and basically the choices are endless.

Yesterday, we showed you how to make a bundt cake breakfast and before the egg is added, you have the ingredients of a yummy breakfast hash.

Sausage And Potatoes Breakfast

What excites me about breakfast in the air fryer, is the ability to grab a few ingredients, throw them in the air fryer and then the air fryer will do the rest.

Normally, when you make a sausage and potatoes breakfast you would use the skillet. You would stand there as you fry your onions, then parboil your potatoes in another pan so that they are soft, then add potatoes to the skillet. Then in goes the sausages and it cooks together nicely.

Now the air fryer breakfast works differently. You toss ingredients in seasoning in a bowl with a little oil and dump in the air fryer.

Next you go and take a shower and come back when the air fryer beeps and tells you that your breakfast hash recipe is DONE.

Now that is why I have an air fryer!

Sausages – The sausages are what makes this breakfast hash recipe amazing, so don’t go with cheap fatty ones. Yes, I am complaining yet again about Richmond sausages. They are greasy and way too fatty in the air fryer. What I do recommend is some different flavoured Cumberland sausages from the butchers as they are amazing.

Potatoes – Any potatoes will work well, including sweet potatoes. As long as you can peel them and chop them into hash chunks, then they are good.

Onion – I love how crispy onion goes when it has been cooked in the air fryer. Check out our air fryer onions as that is also great if you want to saute your onions in bulk.

Oil – A little extra virgin olive oil is all you need in this recipe. Unlike the skillet where you will use a lot.

Seasoning – I love to season my breakfast sausage and potatoes with basil, salt, and pepper. The wonderfully flavoured sausages add so much to the dish, that you don’t need much extra seasoning.

Then for the kitchen gadgets that we have used in our air fryer potato hash recipe, it has just been our Philips Air Fryer. We have this one and its wonderful for many types of air fryer recipes.
