Have you got me covered?“Will Vismo work in Ivory Coast or xxxxx Country” is a question we often get asked?Vismo operates overseas whenever there is data connectivity available. If there is no coverage applications like Outlook, Facebook, YouTube, and Vismo will not operate as they require either mobile network data or a Wi-Fi connection. If there is no coverage you have a very expensive alarm clock in your hand. However, the Vismo App will continue to take locations without data coverage and store them to the memory of your mobile. As soon as coverage is recovered, the Vismo App will send all the locations through to the Vismo Portal where the trail history can be viewed.Remember, you must ensure that data roaming is enabled in your mobile phone settings and (this often gets forgotten) that you have an International Data Plan with your home operator to enable roaming overseas. It's important to check that your home operator has established data roaming agreements with operators in the country you plan to visit. While many operators have data roaming arrangements in place with operators across various countries, it's not a guaranteed universal practice. For insights into mobile coverage in the country you intend to visit, check out https://lnkd.in/eESdw6SD . These maps offer a useful overview of mobile coverage provided by different operators in most countries. However, keep in mind that this is not an exhaustive list and actual coverage may vary as not all mobile operators keep them updated. In instances where tracking is required in areas lacking mobile coverage, a satellite tracker like the Garmin Mini2 or an Iridium Satellite phone such as the Iridium Extreme becomes necessary. Excited to share Adil Dirie's insights on how #mobilemoney and #devicefinancing can build critical bridges to close the digital divide! 🌐 In many low- and middle-income countries, access to #smartphones remains a challenge due to several barriers including digital literacy and affordability. That’s where strategising the right product proposition that delivers real value to users can make the difference to empower individuals to access essential technology while managing their finances responsibly. We supported joint telecom-fintech operator Dialog Axiata PLC eZ Cash with #designthinking and global market #benchmarking to define a product proposition that truly meets the needs of their user communities. Some key findings from the #productdiscovery:📱 Value - Don’t just sell devices, deliver value for users. Educate customers about the value of owning a smartphone and what relevant use the mobile internet has for them. Expand low-end smartphone offerings (in partnership with manufacturers) and increase the relevance for users, e.g. by bundling devices with complementary offerings like data, digital and financial services.🚦 Risk - Leverage innovative #creditscoring for people without formal credit histories. Un(der)banked people may not have a formal financial history, but data about their telecom and mobile money usage can close this gap in underwriting. Providers sit on a data treasure trove to do so.💸 Pricing - Package the offering with the right #pricing parametersunder Pay as you Go (#PAYGo) or Buy Now Pay Later (#BNPL) models. For instance, consider lowering required down payments, providing flexible and adjustable repayment terms, and providing buy-back schemes. This isn't just about owning a device; it's about unlocking opportunities for education, employment, and connectivity. The GSMA Consumer Survey Report for 2023 highlights a significant challenge in Sub-Saharan Africa, where 14 million smartphone owners have yet to utilize them for internet access. “The real challenge lies in accessibility of smartphones and mobile services, largely driven by high unpredictable taxation and government fees in the region. Zooming in on low- and middle-income countries, we find that most affordable Internet enabled handset costs are an average of 19% of monthly income. Astonishingly, here in sub-Saharan Africa, this figure skyrockets to 30%. This glaring disparity sheds light on the economic challenges individuals face in embracing mobile Internet connectivity in the region.” Caroline Mbugua,HSC.Beyond digital skills and content availability, the key obstacle lies in the accessibility of smartphones and mobile services, exacerbated by high taxation and government fees. MVNE Suma Móvil to step up its MVNO enabler business in ChileSuma Móvil a division of GrupoIngenium and an mobile virtual network enabler (#MVNE) of mobile virtual network operators (#MVNO), is looking to double its platform business in Chile and expand into other underserved markets.Suma Móvil expects its MVNE platform to operate 150,000 mobile connections via its MVNO clients this year. Its main client isMundo. According to latest data by regulatorSubtel, Mundo’s MVNO had 97,630 mobile lines as of March 2023. The combined #MVNOmarket share in Chile is currently below 2%. Suma’s #MVNEplatform is now also used byGTD, SMobi, Telbros, IPCom and Alai Secure and the company expects to end this year with seven companies on the platform. “We are looking for brands that go to very specific and varied niches,” Rodrigo Mena, head of Suma Móvil in Chile, told BNamericas.“We began to go with clients in a modality in which we leased the platform and they developed the business. Now we are starting strong with the mobile virtual network aggregator (#MVNA) model, incorporating much smaller companies.”Substantial coverage and service growth is expected next year as the 5G rollout wraps up and Suma Móvil is in talks with its network partnerMovistarto enable 5G.The platform is 5G-ready and will double in size because of an investment of "a couple of million dollars," Mena said. "The initial investment in software and servers is important, but then comes the strongest part, which is the maintenance and growth of these platforms."
